With the Blue Flag National Program, in the category Climate Change, at LAICA we have measured, reduced, and compensated our environmental impacts. All our work centers have been granted the Blue Flag since 2012.

The solid residue management program identifies every residue generated with the objective of correctly disposing of them and managing them in alternative manners.

The energy savings program develops initiatives for constant savings. We implemented mitigation changes like transitioning to LED technology lightning systems and using sensors, helping us make the most of natural light in new constructions. We have also designed production plants using the concept of energy efficacy.

We have also modified production processes from horizontal work lines to vertical work lines, with the purpose of making the most of gravity as an energy source to mobilize materials and the finished products, thus avoiding energy consumption in horizontal movements.

The water savings program implements awareness savings campaigns for the collaborators through illustrated posters and activities and, it implements mitigation measures like more effective sanitary units and devices with sensors.

Also, we have the Water Collection Program, which has been recognized by the Excellency Program of the Chamber of Industries of Costa Rica (CICR, for its acronym in Spanish). This process allows us to collect rain water and use it to irrigate greenhouses in the Experimental Station in Grecia. It has an area of 800 m2, permeable concrete (Drenacreto), canoes, capture tanks, and sedimentation tanks. Rain water is filtered and used in the irrigation process of 250.000 plants. This program allows us to collect approximately 1,200 m³ of water per year.

At LAICA we record the equivalent carbon emissions (non-verified), based on the international GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard, with Scopes 1, 2, and 3. This last one considers only the solid residue component.
